ASN Gateway

Runcom ASN Gateway

Highlights:

  • Scalability - RN-ASN-SG supports “pay as you grow” concept, which enables growth from 1K to 64 K active users.
  • Simple network integration – The gateway is designed as an add-on (drop-in) to the existing infrastructure. It integrates well with all standard WEB, AAA, DHCP servers, and network elements such as routers and switches.
  • Authentication - Several authentication methods are supported simultaneously such as: EAP based authentication, NULL authentication to support un-authorized devices/users, MAC and IP pre-authentication and WEB authentication.
  • Accounting & Reporting - RN-ASN-SG has a strong reporting functionality enabling flexible billing options. The accounting is based on the standard AAA protocol.
  • ACL assignment - RN-ASN-SG can enforce network-based access lists on the end-user traffic. An ACL can be set for each individual user or for any defined group of users.

RN-ASN-SG, Runcom ASN gateway, is a key component in Runcom’s end-to-end solution, which provides a feature rich, cost effective and modular solution specifically for public nationwide wireless 802.16e networks. The ASN gateway includes a set of core technology modules that have been developed by Runcom as part of an integrated solution, or a standalone product.

The solution approach is unique in keeping the wireless RAN as standard as possible, enabling a wide choice of alternative cells, and supporting a unique set of superior operational and service capabilities within the network. A special focus has been made to build a powerful yet simple network architecture, to minimize operational costs and simplify the deployment of a nationwide network in a short period of time. Runcom’s solution, while working with any standard WiMAX equipment, adds the layers of the wide area network services and operation to provide a complete end-to-end solution.

RN-ASN-SG terminates the network interfaces from the base stations via the standard WiMAX R6 interface, controls users sessions (authentication, authorization accounting and security), and handles routing and mobility. The ASN gateway provides a value added service layer on top of its standard WiMAX support. It provides a unique and cost effective provisioning with user interactive communications through existing portals. It manages users sessions with dynamic service profiles implemented on an individual user basis and it includes a wide service portfolio to be offered by the wireless operators to their subscribers.

Advanced Features

In additional to the supported WiMAX standards RN-ASN-SG includes a set of advanced features as describe bellow:

      • Multi users behind CPE – Support the Multi Users Behind CPE approach, where several users may be located behind one WiMAX CPE. The gateway handles each user differently including authentication and billing
      • Self provisioning – Enable subscribers to change their service “on the fly” using standard WEB interface from any portal
      • Walled garden – Enable to define “Walled” environments, using dynamic access lists, which can be dynamically changed by the end-user or by the network administrator
      • Dynamic bandwidth control – Enable controlling the available bandwidth for each subscriber and allow dynamic change of the bandwidth according to the user’s demands
      • Application awareness – Enable wireless operators to differentiate the service profiles based on the applications that are used by each user at a certain point in time (such as p2p, video, voice and etc)
      • Open Access (MVNO) – Provide a simple and intuitive method to support the Open Access concept, where subscribers of one operator can use other operator network

RN-ASN-SG system is available in two hardware platforms. A 9U chassis, that can host up to 16 ASN service creation blades and a 1U chassis that can host up to 2 blades.
